The Order | First Blood

Had a couple of tourny practice games with a mate over the weekend. My Order army vs his Destruction.

First game he took;
 40 Moonclan Grots,
5 Spider Riders
Goblin Boss on Gigantic Spider,
Goblin Boss on Foot,
Goblin Shaman
10 Wolf Riders.

I took;

1 Witch Hunter
20 Freeguild Guard with Halberds,
10 Greatswords
10 Freeguild Archers
3 Demigryph Knights
1 Celestial Hurricanum

I got first turn, and moved everything up, used the archers bonus "scout" move to get into cover ready to shoot when in range next turn. The idea of moving things forward was to get my shooting in range asap, as well as get into favourable positions. In his turn he moved everything forward too.

I believe he got the double turn and ran most things forward. In my turn I managed to wedge my halberdiers in two ranks right in the middle of the board, between the impassable rocks of the hill and ruins which the archers were in. Shooting and hurricanum attacks managed to kill two of the trolls, with my archers killing the final one in combat later in the game. I got my demigryphs into his Goblin boss on Gigantic Spider and dispatched him before he could strike, removing his buff to the nearby spider riders (mortal wounds on 5 as well as 6's).

His turn 3 he charged everything in. Wolf riders into the greatswords, remaining troll into the archers, Goblin horde into the Halberds, and spider riders into the demigryphs.

Long story short I eventually wiped out his whole army!

Game 2 we both switched up the armies to varying degrees, he took a totally different one with just orcs;

1 warboss on wyvern,
30 Orcs,
10 ardboyz,
20 savage Orcs
1 Orc Boss on foot.

I switched out 10 Halberds to "upgrade my witch hunter to a freeguild general.

1 Freeguild general,
10 Freeguild Guard with Halberds,
10 archers,
10 Greatswords
3 Demigryphs,
1 Celestial Hurricanum

I lost this one, focused my early shooting into the wyvern, which got into my hurricanum eventually, which the wizard on the top promptly hit it with his staff knocking it dead! The rest of the battle didn't go so well however, the archers followed by the freeguild guard were overwhelmed by the 30 orcs in the centre. On the left flank I used hold the line on the Greatswords a turn too early, which meant they couldn't move to react to the savage orcs, who charged the greatswords the next turn, as well as the remaining orcs from the big unit. The demis eventually wiped out the 10 ardboyz (which I was impressed with!) but were too late to do anything else.

Overall, I think the first list I used was stronger than the second, with more bodies trumping the +1 to hit and wound from the freeguild general.

Realm Hoppers - The Khorne Rebellion - Further into Aqshy

Ranuk raised his icon of Khorne high into the air, the light from the fires of Aqshy illuminated the portal of skulls that surrounded the defiled icon. The waves of Bloodreavers let out an almighty roar as they trampled over the skulls embedded on the floor, the bone dust mixed with the dry soil kicked up under their feet as they delved deeper into the rumoured lair of the Exiled One. The Bloodbound had been on the move for days now searching for the Exiled One, as they traversed further into the Realm of Fire the telling signs of Skarbrand were apparent, the skulls were more frequent, the bubbling rivers of lava were now bubbling with blood but yet they couldn't find the Outcast.
Small pockets of resistance from FyreSlayers cropped up but the hordes of Bloodbound, frenzied by their desire of finding Skarbrand, were overwhelmed. Weeks passed and it felt like Ranuk was losing hope of finding the lair of the rebellion of Khorne, but as he lifted his Portal of Skulls into the air to give more orders to his Bloodbound, the almighty roar pierced their eardrums. The light around Ranuk drew dark as the Exiled One stood before him….

Rise of Empires: Realm Hoppers October Objective

Welcome to October in the Realm Hoppers campaign!

So September has now gone. Bit of a slow start to the campaign, but thats ok, its only for a bit of fun. If you want to join in this month, just post up your models and battle reports and score some points!

As it is now the next month, you can add in another 1 or 2 war scrolls from the Path to Glory tables below, but still no more than 1350 points in total.

Order Faction Path to Glory tables
Destruction Faction Path to Glory tables
Daemons of Chaos Path to Glory tables
Death and Tomb Kings Path to Glory Tables

Painting your war band.

Here is the best and easiest way of collecting renown points, for every war scroll that is painted and based, then posted up to the blog, you will earn a renown point. Renown points will enable your General to level up and in turn collect Dark Crystals. You can only Level up once per month. To get to Level 1, you need 8 Renown points. To get to level 2, you need 20 Renown points.

For every 8 renown points you earn, you can collect either a Treasure Card or Secondary Objective Card. For every Level up you gain, you can collect a Skill Card. You cannot have more than 3 cards in your possession at anytime.

The battleplan.

This months battleplan sees you General and a few of his elite venture down into the Tombs of the underworld, into the domain of the dead. The rest of your war band are not far behind, but can they survive long enough for the reinforcements to arrive. You must pick a maximum of 250 points worth of models to start the battleplan. After you have played this battleplan, feel free to play as many more as you like!

For every battle you play, you gain 1 Renown point, for every battle you win, you gain an extra Renown point. If you have a secondary objective card and you complete this, you gain another Renown point.

Skill cards can be kept indefinitely (or until your General is slain in any battle or you replace the card), Treasure and Secondary Objective cards can only be used in your next battle and are then lost.

In this battleplan, you have the chance to find more Dark Crystals. If you have any in your possession at the end of the battle, let me know how many you have. These can be exchanged on the Black Market for Treasure, or can be crushed and consumed.. this second option does not always help you, but may give you a super boost for your next battle!

Secondary Objectives, Skill and Treasure Cards

Below is the link to the folders containing all the Skill, Treasure and Secondary Objective Cards that will be in play. When you gain one of these cards, they will be given to you randomly.

Writing Short Stories

There is one other way in which you can earn Renown points, you can write a short story for your general and war band, detailing something they have done in the Mortal Realms. This can be anything you like. But for every short story, you earn 1 renown point.

So thats it! Good Luck for Month 2 and I look forward to seeing your progress! There may be (if I get time) a painting competition at the end of this month where you will get chance to earn more Renown points! Keep your eye out of that.

Player scores for September!

Now like I said a slow month, but a few have gained some Renown.

Beasts of Nurgle now has 10 Renown points
Tales of Sigmar has 1 Renown point

(From the club) - As a club we are playing through the campaign too, but not many of them will post up, so they won't be able to win but..

Sean Houghton now has 8 Renown
Paul Ferguson now has 8 Renown
Adam James now has ...
Mike Owen now has ...
Ben Crowe now has ...
Kye Baker now has 8 Renown ...

Realm Hoppers: Bonus Battleplan

Hi, just a quick one. I have here a bonus battleplan that will link Septmeber's Campaign game to Octobers.

September was all about starting your quest in the Realm of Chamon, on the Verdigris Plains in the Hanging Valleys of Anvock. You had heard word of a large Crystal, but before you could wipe out the enemy and grab it, it shattered. You were still left with some fragments which you carry towards your next goal.

You are now travelling towards a pair of Realmgates that will lead you into Shyish and down into the Underworld, here is a great source of Dark Crystals protected by the legions of Undead. But no journey is safe, this following battleplan will help you tell your story of your journey, can you get there before the enemy does?

If you need to read the rules of the campaign, please click on following link which will detail how to start. Good Luck everyone!

The Order | Part 2

Managed to complete my warband shortly before the deadline!

Marshal Agravain

A veteran of Constantine's house, Marshal Agravain has served the Freeguild since before Constantine was born. Noone dare ask how one of such age keeps has hair from turning grey.

The Amber-Gilded Zweihanders

The Zweihanders are Constantine's very best troops, surviving many ordeals in the service of the Freeguild.

They have half jokingly had the first part of their title added by the rest of the guild in reference to the state of their well-worn weaponry.

Knights of the Round

These three have loyally served Lord Constantine's family for as long as anyone could remember.

The peasantry of the Freeguild spoke of "Golem" in hushed whispers, however the truth may be far more disturbing...

Their livery and armament hints at their true nature for those who delve deep into mythical writings...

What is Karlfranz? The maker of the weapon? A bound spell?

I also updated my first post with better photos of the warband

In the next couple of weeks I'll be focusing on getting ready for my first AoS tournament (will hopefully be able to report some battles too!) I've got maybe a couple of warscrolls to paint by then, and 4 pieces of scenery! So keep your eyes peeled for them in a couple of weeks time!

Edit by HobbyHammer:

This now gives you 10 Renown points! Which will put you to Level 2! It also gives you a new Skill card. Below are your two choices.. please pick one.

Realm Hoppers - The Khorne Rebellion

Tales mention of a forgotten area of Aqshy, a corner of land that no-one, who doesn't wish themselves death, wonders. Delving further into this forsaken land, the heated bubbling rivers turn to boiling blood, bones litter the floor crunching under armoured foot, a mere warning to others their fate will be the same if they venture forth. Story says, whole armies have marched upon the Realm of Fire determined to conquer this renowned area and not a single one returns, their skulls taken for rewards.

In recent times more renegades of Khorne both of Daemon descent and mortal Bloodbound have been witnessed transcending onto these lands to worship the creator of this blood bath. The in-wards rebellion of Khorne is growing at a steady pace and soon this Realm will crumble under crimson and bone.

For the legends talk of one beast responsible for all this bloodshed, an exiled monster once the favour of Khorne. But now he lives an outcast, his anger and wrath the only shred of personality that this Bloodthirster possesses. Where he walks leading his rebellion, the blood rivers flow and the skull piles grow and now with an ever expanding number of worshippers, Skarbrand's power grows within the eight realms… may Sigmar have mercy on the unfortunate few who get in his way.

Règgio and The Wolves of Ghur

To start the campaign, I have chosen Order Free People and therefore chose my war band from these Path to Glory tables. Below is the beginning of my story in the campaign. The story of Règgio and The Wolves of Ghur.

It had been a year or so since the war to defend the city of Greywater Fastness , the war which had seen the death of the King of Bretonni and ruler of House Houghton. The kingdoms were in ruin, the Kings only son Paladin Hènry was also killed in the finally days pushing away an insurance of Khorne Daemons from the edges of the city of Carcassonne leaving no true heir to the throne other than the Black Knight who was still missing from a time long before these cities of Order had sprung up.

The Order | Part 1

Here's my starting warband for the Realm Hoppers campaign! Looking to add a unit of Demigryphs and Greatswords before the end of September, plus have some Flagellants and a Warrior Priest or two waiting in the wings.

Rise of Empires: Realm Hoppers Online Campaign

Welcome to the new Online Campaign for Age of Sigmar: Rise of Empires. Realm Hoppers.

What is Realm Hoppers?
This is a brand new style of campaign gaming in the Age of Sigmar. It combines Path to Glory (PtG), Ladder Style campaigns, Matrix, Silver Tower dungeon crawler. You become a Hero in the Mortal and Chaos Realms, questing to locate Dark Crystals in the aftermath of the Age of Chaos. This is set after the Season of War and All-gates in the timeline. You will find yourself fighting through battle plans, obtaining treasure which can be exchanged on the Black Market, gaining Skills and most importantly growing your war band to help you along the way.

How do I take part?
All you need to start is your imagination. Register your interest on TGA.community, I will send you an email invitation to the blog. From here you can create your blog posts detailing your victories in your battles, post up newly painted war scroll pics or create short stories for your war band. You will receive renown points which will level up your Character. Once a month, you will receive a custom battle plan that will enable you to try and obtain Dark Crystals. With these Dark Crystals, you can exchange them for Skills, Treasure or Renown. Or you can instead try and harness their power to boost your Generals Stat line.

Keep on Rotting in the Free World - Cholothrax the Ascended!

Thanks to Cholothrax's successful alliance with the Skaven of Clan Festerscar, the Rotbringers were experiencing success after success in the Realm of Beasts. Cholophract remembered his time serving under Cholothrax before his disappearance. He often wondered what had happened to his brother after he followed the Prophet through the Rot Tree and if he'd live long enough to see him again...

Cholophract and the other leaders of the Rotbringers were close to figuring out the correct ritual to traversing the Rot Tree, being able to use it in the manner of a regular realm gate, and when the moment came, he would mount an expedition into the other realms to find Cholothrax...

Hey guys, bit late on this one, but here's my daemon prince, Cholothrax the Ascended! He completes my Nurgle army for now...  I'm now getting ready for the Realm Hoppers campaign, painting up my general! Looking forward to rolling on the Path to Glory tables!

Season of War has finished!

Thank you everybody who took part in the Season of War through HobbyHammer. It was really great to see so many people embracing this and getting war scrolls painted and battles played! As you have probably seen, all three cities were won by Order. So finally Order has 3 strongholds in the Realm of Ghyran!

HobbyHammer was a little different, Chaos won the day! followed closely by Death. This was a lot of fun to put on. Which has given me some great ideas for online campaigns going forward. For now, the website will be rested, but in a few weeks I will be announcing a new and exciting campaign, one that leads on from the Rise of Empires and Season of War.

I look forward to bring ing this to you soon!

The Ophidian Empire - 7

Final two entries :(

Sunday, 14 August 2016

If we can still report games from today, my Stormcast had one victory for order.
One more Stormcast Warscroll for the campaign.

Nef done at last, a really tricky kit and not a stable one at all, is a good looking miniature though. Should have another 10 zombies done tommorow and am working on a wraith where I'm going to try some complex (for me) blending - a rising from the grave and becoming coporeal type effect

The Ophidian Empire - 5

Coming towards the end (so much as an army is ever complete) of this project. I have a Mortarch in progress, 10 zombies, 5 black knights and a garden of Morr to go, I doubt all of that will be done by the campaign's end but the Mortarch and zombies should be doable.

Small update this time round.

A new scroll of 10 spear skeletons

Season of War Campaign: Week 4 - Raze and Ruin

So we are into the final week of the Season of War campaign in the Realm of Ghyran and onto the 4th and final battle plan! This week's narrative agenda shows the armies battling well within the city walls, each player has a terrain piece to act as their stronghold, set up is usual alternating set up rules.

The Bloodied Horde - Painted Warscroll

Chaos Marauders

This post has been updated on the campaign! 1 Warscroll painted for Chaos Alliance! Thank you.

Season of War Battle Reps - Weeks 1 & 2

Four battles to report:

Week 1

A Clash of Battlelines - Order vs Chaos

My Wyldheart Wargrove (allied with some Stormcasts) faced off against Khorne's Bloodied Horde. The match came down to a single battleshock test at the very end of turn 5, Order managed to pull out a minor victory when a single remaining chaos knight failed the test.

Battlelines are formed

Season of War Campaign Battle Results

I have two battles to report.

The first battle was a 3 player free for all between Chaos, Destruction, and Order.  At the end of a hard fought 5 Rounds, I managed to pull out a minor victory for Order with 60 more army points left on the table than Chaos.  Destruction lost their last unit the middle of round 5.

The second battle was between Order (me) and Destruction.  We played the Take and Hold Battleplan.  I managed to retreat from combats to claim both objectives on the top of round 4 to score a Major Victory.

Two points for Order!

This post has been updated on the campaign! 2 battles won for Order Alliance! Thank you.

The Ophidian Empire - 4

Here's the new stuff mentioned.

Black Knights. I really didn't like this kit much to put together and there is a lot of soft detail, disappointing from the Perrys.

Season of War Campaign: Week 3 - Might of Monsters

So onto Week 3 of the campaign and here we have an awesome battle plan which gives you extra rules for a big old monster fight. The objective is to destroy the opponents monsters.

A bit of narrative for how we have got to this point. Week one saw the armies meeting in the outskirts and plains surrounding the Greywater Fastness city as Chaos, Destruction and Death all set out to destroy the new city of Order. As the battles raged, champions of the Alliances began to emerge, and heroes rose up to lead their armies to victory, Week 2 saw these rising heroes clash in mighty battles inside the walls of the city. They all command mighty battle hosts now including some truly epic monsters. Each alliance realises that to overcome the enemy, the Behemoths must be destroyed and what better way to kill a monster than with another monster. The enemy rages across the streets of Greywater Fastness and the Order Alliance must not let them reach their strongholds in the city centre, They must not be allowed to reach the Realmgate!

The Ophidian Empire - 3

More done, despite the weather keeping me outside. Progress on the rest too. Next update will be an alternative vamp (this one is metal and don't fancy taking it out for gaming), black knights and more skellies (spears this time). Started building my allied Mortarch but the kit is quite tricky.

This vamp is my general (though will rarely be taking to the table - she's metal as opposed to the other). The leader of the Ophidian Empire (hence the snake crown).

The Ophidian Empire - 2

More completed units for death - this time around with a ghoulish twist. These were extremely quick and easy to paint. White undercoat - Layer of pallid wych flesh - wash of mix between carroburg crimson (60%) and reikland fleshshade (40%). Varied mix by model.

Clean up and highlight the details/raised areas on the skin with pallid wych flesh with a small dash of carroburg for slight roseyness, pick out eyes teeth and nails and done.

Season of War Campaign: Week 2 - A Champion Emerges

Get ready for week 2 of the Summer campaign with the second instalment of official battle plans from GW. This week we will see which champions will start to emerge and gain power.

As before you can either play this scenario as per the battle plan, or use pitched battle points, independent pools etc. But I would say make sure the Hero's in the centre at least are matched, so that is a fair fight. It could be fun to have some large central terrain feature set up for your Heros to do battle over too.

The Heros do battle first before the battle starts, if one hero slays another then their army is immediately buffed with re rolls of hits and auto battleshock passes. Pick your hero wisely. As the winner is determined as of the AoS rules, Sudden Death victory conditions are in play.

So thats it! A simple dog fight followed by a battle all around. Being in Greywater Fastness, it may be an idea to set up the battle taking place in the city centre (again my opinion only and where we will be playing our fight over)

Season Of War: Lord Celestant astride his noble dracoth

The Lord Celestant astride his noble dracoth, both ready for the worst that forces of Chaos or Destruction can hurl at the army he leads.

This post has been updated on the campaign! 1 warscroll painted for Order Alliance! Thank you.

The Ophidian Empire - 1 - Undead in the Age of Sigmar

Like others out there, the passing of time and recent moves from Games Workshop have helped deaden the loss of the world that was. The General's Handbook and summer campaign in particular appealed and I was on participating in the latter somehow. This blog has allowed me to do that by building and painting (thanks Sean). I'll be using this as more of a gallery - posting when units are completed (I am keeping a log elsewhere). If you would like to know anything, ask anything or leave c&c it is always welcome.

I felt a break from the past was needed if I was going to appreciate the new Warhammer, thus I wouldn't be bringing my Elven armies back to war. Instead, I looked around the house and (as a collector of many years inevitably does) found enough miniatures to cobble together a small undead force.

A Ghast and His Gaggle of Ghouls

Mad King Gorepuppet's legion are legion, swarming the turrets of the Shire if Worcestershire's Keeper's Keep. Their Ghast, Lord Brainmunch, ensures their valiant garrison is continually fed.

Keep on Rotting in the Free Peoples!

Blub was even more tired than usual. His regiment had been on the move for as long as he could remember. Even through absolute fatigue however, he knew each and every man would follow the Order to Aqshy and back to achieve their goal, even though it seemed unfathomable to these common men.

Season of War: Bonus Battleplan, Triumph and Treachery

(The Wolves of Carcassonne)

As part of the Season of War campaign, Kye, Mark and myself decided to play a bit of Triumph and Treachery from the new Generals Handbook, the battle plan we played was Field of Blood, we wanted to make it as open play as possible whilst still maintaining the balance and fairness. So we picked our armies based on roughly 1000pts, give or take but did not use any extra restrictions apart from what was on the battle plan.

Defenders of Ghyran - Summer Campaign Painting Week 1

So my Sylvaneth are my entry for this week's painting competition to tie in with the Summer Campaign. The trees have been on my painting desk for months now but I've finally got into the groove and painted up 32 Dryads, a Treelord and a Treelord Ancient.

Gorepuppet's Heroes on the Wing

Borne aloft by majestic, feathered mounts, Gorepuppet's Crypt Flayers are a terrifying sight to behold. Having supped on their master's blood, their madness has translated their bestial, mutated forms into mighty winged steeds. Fallen enemies, flesh freshly gnawed from their bones, are glued and lashed to makeshift saddles; these are the Winged Knights of Gorepuppet's host, and all (even the Flayers themselves) treat these inanimate blood-and-bone chevaliers with respect. The steeds, of course, are also honored, and given the choicest of cuts.

This post has been updated on the campaign! Thank you.
